In my last article, we talked about how to cleanse your crystals. This helps refresh them and get rid of any unwanted energy so that you can utilize their full potential. Your home, or wherever you spend lots of time, needs that same care and attention.

Your home can easily take on the energy of the people that have been in and out of it or of situations that have occured in it. Let's say you've had some friends over or hosted a large event. This would expose your space to many different energies! Just like our crystals, every person has a different energy or vibration. Some, you will resonate with and feel good around and others, you wont. Your space may feel more chaotic or unsettling after everyone leaves and that is because the energy has changed. Another example would be after someone has been sick. That can leave the energy in a space feeling stale, stagnant, and even sad or depressed. Or maybe you and your spouse, friend, family member, etc. had an argument in a space. Now the energy may feel uneasy or angry. All of these energies, while not necessarily being negative, still need to be cleansed out to get fresh positive energy flowing again. Here are nine fairly easy ways to cleanse your home so that you can more thouroughly enjoy your space and you'll feel better in it.
Setting Intentions
The first way to help change the energy in a space, is to set or change the intention in the area. This is basically coming up with a phrase or phrases to set the energy that you want for the space. You can write it down and put it somewhere in the room or you can literally walk into the room and announce it out loud. I really like to combine this with some of the other methods I'll be telling you about. We'll use the example of having a party again. After everyone leaves, you can announce that, "this space is clear of all energies that are not for my highest and greatest good." Sometimes it is helpful to imagine a little vortex in the center of the room that collects the energy as it swirls and then blows out the window or door and back to the universe. The imagery that you create is part of your intention for the energy to leave that area. It helps solidify your intention. Another example is, if you want to create a more loving space, you could say that "this space is cleansed and only loving and kind energy is allowed".

Physical Cleaning/Decluttering
A second way to cleanse the energy in a room is to physically clean and/or declutter the room. You don't have to be a minimalist, but you want your space to make you feel comfortable and relaxed. For many people, that's hard to do in a dirty or disorganized space. Your thoughts and mind are much more at ease and flow better when your space feels and looks nice. Back to that party scenario, cleaning up after the event will make the space feel like your space again. If someone has been sick, cleaning up and sanitizing the space makes it feel better. Or maybe you've just been feeling stuck lately. You can try moving something around or maybe adding something new. Sometimes switching things up a little gets your energy and motivation going again. I know cleaning isn't generally a fun idea, but try picturing it as literally wiping/sweeping away the old or icky energy to make room for the good stuff. Out with the old and in with the new as they say.

Crystals
The third way is with crystals. I love this method (I am Crystal Therapeutics afterall). Crystals can be very effective at helping to shift the energy in a room and, as a bonus, they can also be decorative and beautiful to look at. Size can matter, as the larger the crystal, the bigger the influence it can have. But you don't need to rush out a buy the biggest crystals you can find either. That could get very expensive very quickly. Start with placing them in areas that are used the most frequently or by the most people. Crystals are unique because you can choose crystals to suit your specific needs. Some basic stones that would be good for cleansing and neutralizing the energy in a room are clear quartz, black tourmaline, and selenite. You can place them during and after an event. You can use stones like rose quartz to spread the feeling of love in your living room (or the bedroom, lol), carnelian for creativity and energy in a craft room, or citrine for confidence, abundance, and prosperity in your office. Just keep in mind, that you will want to cleanse those crystals occasionally.
Fresh Air
The next method is just plain and simple fresh air! Never underestimate the value of just opening the windows. This lets the stagnant or negative energy out and brings in the fresh positive energy. It's great to combine this with the setting intentions method I mentioned above. Visualize the unwanted energy flowing out the window and the new energy blowing in on the breeze. We've known for years how great it can feel to open the windows to let in the fresh air, but now you know its becaues the energy shifts when you do it.

Smoke
This is the same as the method we used to cleanse crystals in the last article. You can burn palo santo sticks, sage bundles, insense, or any other combination of herbs that resonates with you. Instead of just drifting the smoke over crystals though, this time you will want to light your chosen item and then walk around the house or room with it. Make sure to let the smoke drift into corners where the energy can get stuck and around openings like windows and doors where people could be passing through frequently. This can be done on its own, or you can combine it with other methods. I like to open the windows when I do this, partly because my kids don't like the smell, lol, and becaues I like to invision the smoke gathering up the energy and taking it out the window. I like to combine it with intention setting as well and will often say out loud something like, "this room is cleansed and only that which is for my highest and greatest good may enter." But this is just one of my methods. There isn't a wrong or right way to combine things and you can do whatever feels right for you.
Essential Oils/Candles
The sixth method is a great option if you like the idea of the smoke, but you can't stand the smokey smell or can't use smoke in the area. You can get essential oils for palo santo and sage and diffuse them to cleanse your space. If you don't care for those scents, then you can also combine them with something you like better. One of my personal favorites is sage and peppermint! It's very refreshing and uplifting in my opinion. Again, you can combine this with setting intentions, fresh air, crystals, etc. You can also shift the energy just by using any scent that you enjoy! If it makes you happy, then your energy shifts, and therefore the energy in the space shifts. If you don't have a diffuser or just don't want to mess with one, then candles are another option. Technically you are still burning them, but it doesn't put off smoke and is generally a safer and more acceptable option. You can find specific candles meant just for cleansing with sage and palo santo as part of their fragrance. Just please be careful of what kinds of candles you get. Many are made with unsafe chemical fragrances. Try to look for candles made with actual essential oils.

Salt
The seventh way to cleanse is with sea salt, black salt, or himalayan salt. Salt has been used in rituals and spiritual practices for ages. It is believed to absorb negative energies. You can sprinkle a line of salt outside of the doorways and windows to your home to stop negative energy from entering. You can also put salt in small bowls around your home in places like under your bed, near entryways, in the corners, or on alters or special places you have for rituals. You can really use any salt, but the less processed it is, the better. Himalayan salt lamps are a favorite of mine. Not only are they effective at clearing energy, but they are also beautiful to look at. Just make sure to replace your salt (not the lamps) every so often to keep it fresh and working its best.
Room Sprays
The next way to cleanse is with a room spray. These are perfect for areas where you can't diffuse oils or burn anything, like in a shared space or office. There are many different mixtures you can make using one or more ingredients like salt, herbs, crystals, and oils. A sea salt spray is quick and easy to make. Just mix about a tablespoon of salt per cup of warm water in a sprayer and shake to dissolve. Spritz it in areas that need a boost of positive energy or even on items that may need cleansing (as long as they are water safe of course). Another mixture that I enjoy is warm water, sage and palo santo essential oils, and sea salt. I've even combined more methods and added small quartz and black tourmaline chips to my cleansing sprays.

Sound
As with crystals, a space can also be cleansed with sound. Those sound waves travel all around to shake things up and dispel stagnant or negative energy. It can even be as simple as clapping your hands. Just walking into each room and clapping your hands in the corners can get things flowing again. If you prefer, you can play a gong, tuning fork, singing bowl, play upbeat positve music, or even sing. You don't even have to sing well. The main point is just to send out those vibrations to get the energy moving.

That was quite of bit of info, but I hope it wasn't too overwhelming. I wanted to give you lots of different options so that you can try things out and see what works best or is the most efficient for you. You can use one or all of them, whatever you want. There isn't one right way and there isn't really any wrong way to do it. Just remember to set your intentions. Your thoughts are powerful and can set the stage for whatever method or ritual you choose to do. Enjoy the process and make it a regular part of taking care of your home (or space).
